A. A Rapid PCR test is a nasal swab used to detect an active strain of the COVID-19 virus. Patients that are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive should receive a rapid COVID test. Rapid test results are typically found within fifteen minutes of the test. 

Q. What is a standard COVID-19 test and how do they work? 

A. A standard COVID test works by swabbing the inside of a patient’s nose, and detecting whether or not they have an active case of the virus. Your test is then sent to and analyzed in our lab. Unlike a rapid test a standard PCR COVID-19 test provides results in a few business days. 

Q. When should I get a COVID-19 test?

A. If you believe that you have either traveled to a location with significant cases, made direct contact with an infected patient, or are symptomatic after meeting a confirmed patient then COVID-19 testing may be useful. COVID-19 testing is sometimes a requirement for return to work, school, or other post quarantine activities. 

Q. What should I do if I have a positive result?

A. You should stay home and avoid contact with others. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the quarantine process and get enough rest. Monitor your symptoms to make sure you are getting better and stay in touch with your doctor. It is recommended to quarantine for at least 10 days after symptoms start.

Q. What should I do if I have a negative test?

A. Receiving a negative tests means your body did not show active signs of the virus at the time. If you start experiencing symptoms, get tested again. If not, continue following governmental guidelines, wash your hands frequently, maintain a distance of 6 feet between others, and wear a mask when in public.
