Q. What is a Rapid COVID-19 Test?

A. A Rapid PCR test is a nasal swab used to detect an active strain of the COVID-19 virus. Patients that are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive should receive a rapid COVID test. 

Q. How does Rapid COVID Testing work?

A. A test works by swabbing the inside of a patient’s nose, and detecting whether or not they have an active case of the virus. Your test is then sent to and analyzed in our lab. Rapid test results are typically found within fifteen minutes of the test. 

Q. When should I get a rapid COVID-19 test? 

A. If you believe that you have either traveled to a location with significant cases, made direct contact with an infected patient, or are symptomatic after meeting a confirmed patient then rapid testing may be useful. Rapid tests are also useful for patients need to determine their risk faster, have to return to work, return to school, or another post-quarantine activity. 

Q. What should I do if I have a positive result from my rapid COVID test?

A. You should stay home and avoid contact with others. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the quarantine process and get enough rest. Monitor your symptoms to make sure you are getting better and stay in touch with your doctor. It is recommended to quarantine for at least 10 days after symptoms start. A rapid COVID test that returns a positive likely means that you have the virus and could put others at risk.  

Q. What should I do if I have a negative test from my rapid COVID test?

A. Receiving a negative tests means your body did not show active signs of the virus at the time. If you start experiencing symptoms, get tested again. If not, continue following governmental guidelines, wash your hands frequently, maintain a distance of 6 feet between others, and wear a mask when in public. Prevention can help avoid another potential infection. 

Q. Is COVID-19 testing covered by insurance?

A. Whether or not you are covered for rapid tests or antibody tests will depend on your current insurance plan. Some insurance plans do not cover rapid testing. Please consult your insurance provider to learn more.
